Dear HRMS Families,
Happy Tuesday! We are looking forward to welcoming everyone back to HRMS tomorrow. As we begin the school year, one of the most meaningful ways you can support your student is by staying connected to their learning. 
Ask your student regularly if they have any unfinished work or assignments they need to complete. Have them open Schoology and show you what they are currently working on. These simple conversations help students take ownership of their learning while keeping you connected to their progress.
Middle school teachers support 180+ students each day, so your regular monitoring and check-ins are one of the most timely ways to support your student’s success. Together, we can celebrate growth, encourage independence, and address concerns early.
The first day of school is tomorrow, September 2, and it is not a late start. School begins at 8:15 AM and doors will open at 7:50 AM. Staff and student leaders will be ready to help anyone who is finding their way around the building or adjusting to new classes.
Please remind your student to check their schedule one final time tonight. If your family has access to a printer, please print a hard copy.

Staying Connected During the School Day

As a reminder, students will not have access to their cell phones during the school day. If your student needs to reach you, they will use one of our school office phones.
Please help us keep communication moving smoothly by answering calls from numbers beginning with 253-530-19XX. Calls from this number range may be from your student, office staff, or an administrator.

Bell Schedule

Please review our new two lunch bell schedules. 
Lunches are based on 4th period. 

Pickup & Drop Off

As we prepare for the start of the school year, we want to remind families about our morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up procedures. Please follow all posted signs and directions from staff, and when you enter the traffic line, pull forward completely to the end of the curb whenever space is available. 
Please do not stop in front of the school to wait for your student. Keeping vehicles moving and filling available space helps us serve more families efficiently and keeps traffic flowing safely.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in ensuring the safety of our students and keeping traffic moving smoothly.

Families are only asked to provide a backpack, lunch box and headphones. Any extra or preferred supplies are welcome, but entirely optional.

We will not be selling school issued PE uniforms but students will be required to bring these items for PE.

New Devices

We are thrilled to announce that all students will be receiving a brand new Neo device, which will be distributed during the second week of school. 
Tuesday 9/8: 6th Grade

Thursday: 9/10: 8th Grade
We are excited about this fresh start and the opportunity it brings to re-establish our expectations around responsible device use for both students and families.

Transportation

Please sit down with your student to determine, and write down the specific bus number your student will be going home on. 
Do not assume the buses and routes are the same from previous years, there have been many changes. Additionally, if you have had an address change, please notify the school so we can update your student's profile. 
Transportation Update – BusRight invitations were sent to families on August 14, to their email addresses on file in PowerSchool. If families have questions or did not receive their invite, please direct them to the Transportation Department at 253-530-3900.

Picture Day & Purchasing

Yuen Lui Studio will photograph individual portraits at Harbor Ridge Middle School on Thursday, September 3rd.

Athletics

Fall Sports will begin September 9th.
Please register ASAP!
SPORTS REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS:
ASB Membership of $20 – One-time fee good for all sports during a school year. Your student can bring in $20 cash or a check to the bookkeeper. You can pay with a credit/debit card by going to the PSD Online Payment Portal. Username - Enter the student's ID number. Password - Enter the student's Last Name (IN ALL CAPS). *Do Not Sign in as a Guest
Sports Physical - Any student wanting to participate in a school sport must have a current Sports Physical (forms may vary) on file here at HRMS. These physicals are good for 24 months. The Fee varies with your primary healthcare provider, or you can complete a physical at no cost through Community Health Care Key Medical Clinic. Please call them 253-884-9221 to confirm days and times available for sports physicals.
Academic Eligibility - Student-athletes must maintain a GPA of at least 2.0 (which is a C average) and have no more than one course with an F.
